So back in September, I decided if I was serious about making a career in wedding photography, there was few things I needed to do to make this happen. One of those things was to attend a wedding photography workshop. Now, I know a lot of people don’t believe in these kind of workshops, saying; only doing a real wedding shoot will give you skills and knowledge to become a wedding photographer. This is slightly true, but for me, it would give me invaluable experience to take forward.
The workshop was run by a great pro, Helen Howard, who is wonderful wedding photographer. She has been doing it for over 4 years, so I really felt that she would be very current but also experienced enough to show us everything we needed to know.
The workshop was at Moor Hall Hotel, a country house hotel set in beautiful parklands in Sutton Coldfield, just outside Birmingham.
The group was made of 8 people, some who have done a few weddings and just wanted to brush up and others who had no experience and was starting on the first rung of the ladder. The structure of the day was in the morning we would go through an introduction and insight into wedding photography, where after lunch was the practice shoot. Helen had arranged two couples and two bridesmaids for us to shoot. It was an amazing day and the group bonded very well, with people helping each other and showing a few trick of their own to capture some stunning shots.
I came away from this workshop learning loads and meeting some great people, who I have now become friends of mine. Really looking forward to the next one (around March/April), and by then I will definitely have some real wedding photography experience under my belt.
Here are a few of my favourite pics I took on the day…
